Ambient Awareness

The participative installation, Ambient Awareness, is a co-operative project between artists and computer scientists from the University of Hamburg Applied Science. The goal of this collective project is a merging of an artistic and technical vision to achieve a new level of questioning and solutions in regards to ambient communication. Communication is delivered through a tactile organism that immerses the viewer with all of their five senses. Ambient technology such as sensors are embedded throughout the installation and its environment. The sensors utilize body movement and sound, along with gestures, as input and are then emphasized and abstracted as output in the form of physical movement, light, film, and sound.

The collective organism is an environment that is made in human scale with physical extensions mounted on its outer body that actively communicate with the viewer. As a whole, the organism consists of a diverse number of smaller sections that were developed in multi-disciplinary groups.

Skin Sight
The surface of the organism activates a projection through the movement of the viewer.

Netz
The net symbolizes the possibile locations of the organism in the form of film, abstract images, structures, color and light.

Sleeping Cocoons
This project integrates a living Brutkammer within the organism.
Contributors: Gesa Troch, Oliver Dreschke, Sebastian Gregor

Personality Detector
The viewer is confronted with a combination of smell and taste that in turn create a dialogue with the organism.
Contributors: Helene All, Oliver, Thomas, Sören

Untitled
A small parasite within the main organism follows and inspects the viewer’s movement.
Contributors: Kai Rosseburg, Katrin Weigelt

We Follow You!
A visualization of the physically micro-universe illustrate the life force that make up organisms.
Contributors: Sven Tennstedt, Henryk Wollik

Magic Sound Tunnel
A soundscape that evelopes the viewer with a playful audio-visual presence.
Contributors: Malinka Gdanietz, Florian Burka, Sebastian Gregor

The organism is a joint project between the departments Design and Computer Science at the University of Hamburg Applied Science and is lead by Professor Franziska Hübler from the Design Department and Professor Dr. Kai von Luck and Professor Dr. Gunter Klemke from Computer Science along with and Jeremy Abbett from Truth Dare Double Dare.
